Q for @KateFrappell: With the popularity of Instagram Stories and now IGTV, what are your thoughts about vertical video? #SocialROI pic.twitter.com/cpk0vPbWeC

MF Design Lead Answers

Aa) Ergonomically, vertical videos make sense. We are consuming more content than ever on our mobile devices and we hold these devices vertically. #SocialROI

— Kate Frappell (@katefrappell) July 10, 2018

Ab) Yet society is accustomed to the horizontal format seen on TV and computer monitors. Horizontal video has done well because the wide screen provides plenty of context. Vertical video provides less context, but has a much stronger sense of immediacy and intimacy. #SocialROI

— Kate Frappell (@katefrappell) July 10, 2018

Ac) Consuming horizontal video is traditionally a passive experience. In contrast, vertical video lends itself to interactivity. Stickers, polls, comments, reactions etc all encourage the user to get involved. In this sense, vertical video is reshaping storytelling. #SocialROI

A1: #IGTV videos allow you to create a more robust Instagram channel by giving you the opportunity to “dip your toes” into longer form video. This helps with adding more context to posts, creating Instagram exclusive content & overall giving your audience more value #SocialROIhttps://t.co/coMl3Cfp6H

A1. IGTV has created an outlet for longer consumable video content. It’s the snackable version of YouTube, with the ability to capture the audience’s attention.

Also has integrated well w/ analytics, established community, and creative options for brands. #SocialROI https://t.co/CqWupaQDuw

— Karen Freberg, PhD • #SMprof, Consultant + Author (@kfreberg) July 10, 2018

A1.

  • IGTV allows you to create episodic content, longer than IG stories and easier than YouTube to use

  • IGTV videos can be linked to IG stories, which help boost exposure#SocialROI https://t.co/sx6wN72k6g

To existing community - it's an additional way to share information & content on a platforms they already use - it's a great opp to create a channel, do episodic content / consistently share w/ your community#SocialROI https://t.co/ZZGHvlRJPJ

A1: It’s great for introducing valuable Instagram audiences to longer-form video content; not everyone’s audience is as devoted on other platforms. This will be especially great for lifestyle Instagrammers, influencers, foodies, etc. #SocialROI https://t.co/97faHkfIev

A2 (a): The most important benefit is since this is a new feature and the first time vertical video has the spotlight, it’s a great time to break into this new format - especially with the low barrier to entry. All you need is your phone! #SocialROI https://t.co/5C5clg3EpB

— Dhariana Lozano (@DhariLo) July 10, 2018

A2 (b): #IGTV’s vertical video format lets you take advantage of the way people are consuming #videocontent now - mostly on mobile, without having to turn your phone to the side. #Instagram now has 1 Billion users - so much opportunity for reach #SocialROI

— Dhariana Lozano (@DhariLo) July 10, 2018

A2: it caters to the consumers’ needs! With every aspect of marketing, we have to be cognizant of the users’ time and make everything easier and more convenient. Shooting vertical does just that. Provides a better user experience. #SocialROI

A2: If your audience is already an Instagram audience, it’s also already a mobile audience, holding their phones vertically - a perfect opportunity to meet your audience where they are & make consumption of your content as easy as possible! #SocialROI https://t.co/QU828OzkS9

A3 (a): Marketers can use videos and live videos to add value to their followers in so many ways. Videos allow you to show personality, demonstrate products or services and educate your audience. Think Q&A’s, round ups, tutorials, FAQ etc. #SocialROI https://t.co/krBfVlZIcT

— Dhariana Lozano (@DhariLo) July 10, 2018

A3 (b) : You can add clickable links to IGTV video descriptions and you can “swipe up” and link right to your IGTV video from #InstagramStories - which is a great workaround for us without the 10K followers and regular “Swipe Up” feature #SocialROI

— Dhariana Lozano (@DhariLo) July 10, 2018

A3: If you have been making excuses for not doing video, #IGTV is a great place to get started to transition to other video platforms and grow your presence and confidence as it evolves #SocialROI https://t.co/aEOtYUL4Cf

— Jim Fuhs of Fuhsion Marketing #SoMe trainer (@FuhsionMktg) July 10, 2018

A3: Stay steady with the momentum. Create new videos but also look at older, other forms of content, that can be turned into #video. One video won’t do the trick! #SocialROI https://t.co/vAzxV8WQjK

— Katelyn Brower (@BrowerKDnB) July 10, 2018

A3: 2021 isn't far off, if you're not warming up to video yet you're already late! BUT, that's no excuse to not start. Create video now, practice, try things, learn what works for you and what doesn't! #SocialROI

— JMatt (@JMattMke) July 10, 2018

A3
It's the perfect timing to watch, learn and start creating (strategically) your content for your audience, from well-edited content across platforms to quick, easy and on-the-go IGTV content that makes it easy to produce and consumer too#SocialROI https://t.co/KFyXwzPDJB

A4: My top content ideas are to repurpose content already created (i.e. turning a blog post into a video or creating a recap), you can teach your followers how to use your product or services in ways they haven’t considered, create mini webinars, or recurring segments #SocialROI https://t.co/V4xrTPfr9f

— Dhariana Lozano (@DhariLo) July 10, 2018

(I do weekly live videos on Instagram which I call #coffeewithdhari. I'll edit and repurpose for IGTV) #SocialROI

A4: Use the long-form #video capabilities to your advantage. Just release a new #ebook or #white paper? Take the time to dive into it on #IGTV, but don’t give it all away! The CTA will be to download for leads. #socialroi https://t.co/k5ddlNvWLf

— Katelyn Brower (@BrowerKDnB) July 10, 2018

A4: Q&A! Ask your followers to submit questions or use prompts that you’ve seen throughout the week and add your two cents. This shows your in touch with your industry and are an expert. #socialROI

— Maria Marchewka (@_MariaMarchewka) July 10, 2018

A4: I've seen vlogging content work pretty well on IGTV - I've also seen the format of Q&A work, you submit your questions in advance and select questions get answered in the episode! #SocialROI

A6 (a): Right now the top 3 apps I’ve played around with are Inshot, Video shop, and Videoleap. Of course you can just prop your phone up and record straight through to your 10 minute mark on your camera or use existing Instagram Stories #SocialROI https://t.co/TRUoOMLSJw

— Dhariana Lozano (@DhariLo) July 10, 2018

A6 (b): If you have a series of Instagram Stories throughout the day, download the full story and upload it to your IGTV as a video. You can cut what you need to right on your phone. No production team required lol #SocialROI

A7: Insights are your strongest tool to learn what is working or not! You can see how many people watch and more importantly watch times on your videos! This is essential if you have a call to action. You’ll know when to plug it into your video before people drop off #SocialROI https://t.co/9Y8ZxYXguu

— Dhariana Lozano (@DhariLo) July 10, 2018

A7 (c): Simply go on your IGTV video, click on the 3 dots next to the airplane and hit "Insights". You'll be able to see views, comments, likes on the IGTV video, and how far people got into the video! #SocialROI https://t.co/9Y8ZxYXguu

— Dhariana Lozano (@DhariLo) July 10, 2018

A7: Video #data is crucial for your success. Understand who is watching, how long they are watching, and how both of these data points trend over time. #socialROI https://t.co/MzYirmUY0I

A7 Insights are there for a reason -- to help you know your audience better. The more you learn about potential customers and their pain points, the better you can serve them. #SocialROI

— Jim Katzaman - Get Debt-Free One Family at a Time (@JKatzaman) July 10, 2018

A7. The fact that there are 3 types of content now on IG (feed/story/IGTV) gives you so much data on what’s working best and for which parts of your audience; monitor all 3 & do more of what works! #SocialROI https://t.co/F0AdlqRhze
